Royal Oak Farm Orchard Nursery is committed to delivering nursery stock in healthy, viable condition at the time of delivery. However, we understand that there are instances when a newly planted tree might fail to thrive due to factors beyond the control of both the buyer and the seller. To ensure our customers have a fruitful first year, we offer a limited warranty. Details of our 1-Year Limited Warranty are outlined below, contingent upon adherence to all grower conditions:
Most of the plants we cultivate are vulnerable to various plant pathogens. These include, but are not limited to, fire blight, bacterial canker, apple scab, powdery mildew, and many others not specified here. Such diseases are ubiquitous across North America and can flourish on a wide range of non-fruit tree hosts. We strive to deliver trees that are free from plant diseases and insect pests through diligent field inspections throughout the growing season. Our warranty covers one growing season, which concludes on July 1 each year. We will replace any tree of a comparable variety that does not survive the first growing season, as long as all conditions in our Growing Guide are met. Royal Oak Farm Nursery is not liable for the health of the trees post-planting if the Growing Guide is not adhered to. The vitality of the trees largely relies on the care they receive after planting. We encourage our customers to implement sound horticultural practices in managing pests and diseases, as outlined in the Tree Growing Guide provided at delivery. Additionally, we offer links on our website to valuable resources aimed at supporting the successful establishment of your orchard or garden.
ABOUT POLLINATION GROUPS
Apple varieties are grouped according to when they flower.
The earliest pollination group to blossom is Group 1, followed by Groups 2 and 3 and, bringing up the rear towards the end of spring, Group 4. Most of our trees are either Group 2 or Group 3, making the selection process considerably simpler. It's best to pick different varieties from the same group to ensure they will be in flower at the same time, though varieties from adjacent groups will offer some overlap and hence pollination success. Group 2 and 3 will work together to cross pollinate each other.
ABOUT ROOTSTOCK GROUPS
Today, all commercial apple trees are grafted to a rootstock, which controls the size of the tree. The use of clonal rootstocks for apples began in the mid-1900s. Selections from the East Malling Research Station, Kent, England, were introduced to commercial fruit production as a means to control tree vigor, promote early fruiting and improve tree efficiency. The widespread acceptance of this technology led the way for rootstock breeding in the United States, Poland and the former Soviet Union. The M and EMLA rootstocks from East Malling, the Bud rootstocks from the former Soviet Union and more recently, the G rootstocks from Geneva, New York, have become the most commonly used rootstocks for apple production in the United States and throughout the world.
